Living in Pecan Square: Northlake, Texas

If you’re looking for a master-planned community that has social clubs, events, and amenities for all ages, then check out Pecan Square, located in Northlake, one of the best suburbs of Dallas, Texas.

About Pecan Square

Pecan Square is located in the town of Northlake, within Denton County, approximately 1 mile west of I-35W, off of FM 407 and around 25 miles from the DFW International Airport.

Northlake is a fast-growing community that’s currently growing by about 25% per year.

According to Hillwood, the developer, “The central idea behind Pecan Square was a walkable town square with unique, forward-thinking amenities made for today’s family.” With their main focus being to create a deep sense of community, Pecan Square won the 2021 People’s Choice Community of the Year award.

Pecan Square Amenities

The central hub in Pecan Square is the Town Square, giving it that small-town feel. Making up this hub are Jackson Hall, the Greeting House, and the Arena.

Jackson Hall is for recreation and fun. It’s home to a fully equipped fitness center, game room, and classrooms. With resort-style pool out back.

The Greeting House has a co-working space with nooks and meeting rooms, as well as a workroom with printing and copying capabilities. There is also a convenience station with snacks and drinks for purchase, and Amazon Hub lockers offering more safety for packages.

This co-working space is one of the top reasons the last family we helped buy a home in Pecan Square chose to live here.

The Arena is a 22,000-square-foot covered pavilion, which is where most community gatherings and live music events happen. The south side features covered sport courts for basketball and pickleball. The pickleball court was the deciding factor for another family we recently helped buy a home here. Just outside of The Arena is Pioneer Park, with a children’s play area, barbecue area, and fire pit for hangouts.

Outside of the Town Square, Pecan Square has parks and green spaces. The Barking Lot dog park is a favorite for dog owners, and Elm Tower sits at the highest point overlooking the community for scenic views. Fielding Park and Cobbler Park have playgrounds and open areas great for family picnics and games.

Pecan Square Schools

Students that living in Pecan Square are slated for Northwest ISD, which is known for its athletic and arts programs, as well as career academies and an outdoor learning center. It has also been named as one of the best school districts for music education in America for several years in a row. And Niche has ranked Northwest ISD as the #3 best school district in Denton County. Hillwood, the developer of Pecan Square, actually put aside 163 acres for on-site schools within Northwest ISD, the first of which is Johnie Daniel Elementary School, which is open now, and there are plans for a future middle school, high school, and stadium complex.

Pecan Square is also situated near several private school options for school-aged kids.

Located near the Harvest entrance in Northlake Commons is The Goddard School. This school offers early childhood education for preschool and pre-K, as well as daycare.

Within a five-mile drive is Liberty Christian School, which offers education for pre-K through 12th grade. Our daughter recently graduated from Liberty Christian, and she absolutely loved her teachers there.

For those looking for higher education options, two universities — the University of North Texas and Texas Woman’s University — are 20 minutes away, not far from the historic town square in Denton. There are actually over 20 schools within the DFW area that offer degrees, so lots of options!

Pecan Square HOA

There is a Pecan Square HOA that makes sure all of the amenities are well-kept. As well as offering a full-time, on-site Lifestyle Manager who plans over 300 events a year and plenty of ways for neighbors to connect. The HOA also provides full coverage half-gig WiFi and a dedicated Home Automation Technician from HomePro.

HOA dues are paid semi-annually and are based on the lot size of the homeowner’s property.

Pecan Square Shopping

Now, since Northlake is a growing community, there aren’t a lot of close options for shopping just yet. As far as grocery stores, there is a Kroger Marketplace in Bartonville, which is about 9 miles from Pecan Square, and Whole Foods is located in Highland Village, about 12 miles away. For other shopping and retail stores and restaurants, residents enjoy visiting the Shops at Highland Village and the Tanger outlet mall. And nearby Roanoke is known as the unique dining capital of Texas, with more than 60 dining options.

Let’s talk about housing. With around 1,200 acres and 7 home builders, Pecan Square offers build options in a variety of price points and home styles.
